The WMP plugin also doesn’t support the loop parameter - it needs playcount instead. The best way to hide a player that will work for all media player plugins is to set the width and height to 0 For example, Quicktime does not support the ‘showControls’ parameter - which is WMP only (since for the WMP plugin the controls are only a part of the UI, not all of it)Īnd the WMP plugin does not support the hidden parameter properly - it prevents it from autostarting.
IE will use WMP to play a media file unless another browser plugin lists it.Īlso, the WMP plugin does not support all the same parameters as the WMP ActiveX control (what IE uses) and the Quicktime plugin. It plays with Quicktime on your win2k box because its browser plugin must list mp3 files. Unfortunately, IE ignores MIME Types and file extensions - instead it examines the contents of the file and decides for itself what format it is and what to do with it. Since Firefox obeys those lists (as it should), it will not use the WMP plugin to play an mp3, because the WMP plugin does not list mp3’s.Īdding TYPE=“application/x-mplayer2” was the correct solution - application/x-mplayer2 is a MIME Type that the WMP plugin lists (MIME Types are file identifiers used on the internet), and the type attribute overrides the actual file extension and MIME type of the file to be played.
The WMP plugin only lists the Windows Media formats. A browser is supposed to use these lists to choose a plugin to play a file.
Browser plugins have a list inside them of the file extensions and MIME Types they can play. All other browsers must use the 7-year-old WMP plugin. IE uses Windows Media Player itself to play any media file that WMP recognises. “Isn’t Firefox smart enough to realize that I still have Windows Media Player available to play it with?” I got this from the creator of the Greasemonkey Scripts (scripts that help you embed media that works in both Firefox and IE). Now I am looking over the FF help site and there are 260 posts on FF 4.0 not working I just received some feedback from another thread that was NOT having the issues you are and didnt have FF 4.0 yet. Here’s the solution. Havent had time to check over at Firefox to see what they are saying.
I havent had any problem with the FP update on either of my PCs, so Im thinking its FF 4.0. I think I would have update Flash Player first and waited a few days before updating FF. I have never heard of the FP Installer not Installing that plugin.įlashUtil10oPlugin.exe Im going to check mine and let you know if its just an Uninstaller executable or may be an Installer.Ī couple of other users are having a glitch with the new FF 4.0 Flash Player update. Then again, we dont know that it didnt, but the FF 4.0 may have caused the glitch.
I dont know if right clicking on that Flash file for FF would Install it or not. I dont understand why the FF Installer didnt Install the Shockwave Flash plugin. Your Flash files for FF and IE are all correct with the latest version 10.2.153.1. The NPSWF files need a right click to open and then click on Properties to obtain the version number.
Go to C:WindowsSystem32MacromedFlash Open Flash and post back the files there. I re-read your first post and it appears you Installed FF 4.0 and then had an issue. Is there some way to get the plugin file and manually load it into my FF plugins folder or something I am at a total loss here.
Application X Mplayer2 Plugin Chrome Download And SAVEĭownload and SAVE to your Desktop the Uninstaller: Download and SAVE to your Desktop the Installer for FF- use the EXE Installer for plugin based Download and SAVE to your Desktop the Installer for IE- use the EXE Installer From the same site as for FF Close all browser windows, you only want to be looking at your Desktop.ĭisable any messenger services, as yahoo, msn, etc in the system tray(area near the clock) Disable Anti-Virus until FP is Installed Run the Uninstaller and when finished, Reboot(restart) your computer.Ĭheck to make sure the Anti-Virus is still Disabled Run the Installer for IE, Run the Installer for FF and when finished, Reboot. NOTE: You didnt say if you have FP Installed in IE, if so the Uninstaller will Uninstall IE also.
It looks like Shockwave doesnt even exist which is probably the main issue - but seeing that installing isnt working I have no idea how to fix the problem and get this plugin to appear in order to enable it.
